The third round of Cwpan Ceredigion took centre stage over the weekend and there were good wins for four Costcutter League sides.
Pride of place goes to Lampeter who registered an emphatic away victory against Penrhyncoch Reserves. After Jason Jones had given them an interval lead they wrapped it up in the second half through Terry Witts and Mark Wilkins who bagged a couple. Huw Jones netted Penrhyn's sole reply.
Holders St Dogmaels proved too strong for Llanilar who, in fact took an early lead through Peter Tooze. The Saints rallied well and goals from Simon Wilson, Johnny Jones and Lee Burrows took them comfortably into the last eight.
Despite having home advantage Aberaeron made heavy weather of their victory over Tywyn Bryncrug Reserves. After a lack lustre first ninety minutes it was not until well into extra time that they clinched the tie when Jason Jones popped up in the six yard box to net the decisive goal.
There were goals galore at Maes Radley as Maesglas put eight past Ffostrasol. There were hat-tricks apiece for Dominic Williams and Chris Jones and one each for Llifon Howell and Phil Furney.
Tregaron in defeating Llanboidy were the only Cambrian Tyres League side to beat Costcutter League opposition. In what turned out to be an excellent game goals from Dorian Coleman, David Weir and Gethin Jones clinched the win for the Turfs.
In the third round of the J Emrys Morgan Cup Cardigan maintained their interest in the competition with a well worked win over Llanybydder. Alun Williams led the way with two goals with a Chris Truslove effort and an own goal taking them through to the next round and a home tie against Bont.
In the First Division leaders New Quay slumped to an unexpected defeat against Crannog. The home side always had the edge and clinched the three points with goals from Arwel Morgan and Chris Welch. |
